Pass It Back...Kick It Forward

PASS It Back...Kick It Forward looks at the past, present and future of a club, and this month we have chosen London Wasps. The now almost legendary Lawrence Dallaglio OBE is a former Wasps captain and stalwart of the game. Simon Shaw is a Wasps veteran of 12 years and current senior squad member. Hugo Ellis is a bright young thing - the future of Wasps.

Rugby Unplugged brings you interviews will all three players as a look across the ages...

LAWRENCE DALLAGLIO OBE

WEST Londoner, former London Wasps Captain, England Captain, British Lion, backing singer for Tina Turner, the list of accolades for Lorenzo Bruno Nero Dallaglio OBE – or Lawrence as he is better known, could be continued for quite some time. An alumni of Kings House School Richmond alongside Zac Goldsmith and Colin Charvis, then Ampleforth, a distinguished school of note with past students including Andrew Parker Bowles, Julian Fellowes and Rupert Everett, Lawrence leaves a memorable impression no matter where he is. With his hectic schedule juggling the Wasps directorship, his chairmanship of the Dallaglio Foundation which he founded earlier this year in memory of his mother Eileen and sister Francesca, his stake in Eden Park, as well as his beautiful wife Alice and three children, along with his honorary presidency for the charity, Wooden Spoon, and his interest in horse racing, it is not surprising it is quite difficult for him to spare any time at all – so I only had him for five precious minutes…

A FEW THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT … HUGO ELLIS

What is your club nickname?
Bradley – from Eastenders, but I prefer Prince Harry

What is your training regime?
Not outside of club training. Shaun can be quite a hard task master if you get on the wrong side of him.

Do you have a match ritual?
No. I’m not really superstitious like a lot of guys. I don’t have to go out last or anything like that.

What is your hidden talent?
Certainly not cooking! I was a soloist in the choir at school but that’s when I was very young.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Galaxy chocolate

Did you discover rugby or did rugby discover you?
I was brought into it from a very early age by Dad, who played for Welsh Schools, Neath and Oxford. I started at Richmond rugby club.

What is your earliest ‘defining moment’ memory when playing in a match?
When I captained my school senior team; that year I played for Wales U16 but then switched to England. I’ve played U18 U19 U20 U21 for England.

What is the best game you have seen or been involved in and why?
I went to Twickenham to watch the 1999 World Cup Semi Final between France and New Zealand – that’s gotta be the most exciting game I’ve ever seen.

Playing, probably the best game is when I captained England in the U20s and we won the World Cup Semi Final against South Africa.

Rugby hero and why?
In my position, I grew up watching Scott Quinnell and Lawrence Dallaglio – the top No. 8s about at the time.

Non-rugby hero and why?
I’m a big Arsenal fan and I’ve got a season ticket so Thierry Henry was a massive hero of mine but now he’s a traitor so now it’s Cesc Fàbregas.

Do you use beauty products?
I don’t use a great deal really. I usually hack half my face off shaving then use a bit of balm after then a bit of hair wax. I’m not like some of the boys...

What is your favourite city?
London – because I haven’t been to that many cities really yet. I like living in London.

What is your favourite music and why?
A bit of everything really. I like Pink and Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, and Kasabian are a favourite of mine at the moment.

What is your favourite film and why?
Shawshank Redemption, and I love the new batman movie with Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight.

What is your favourite book and why?
The last books I read were a series on Genghis Khan by Conn Iggulden.

You can invite four people alive or dead to dinner, who are they and why?
Sheryl Cole, Noel Gallagher, Jennifer Aniston, Thierry Henry.

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM…

House?
I’d live on a massive great big yacht just sailing around the world

Car?
Aston Martin DB9 Volante

Dream gadget?
Not really into gadgets. The best thing I’ve had for a while is my iPhone

Dream holiday?
I’ve always wanted to go to Fiji

Dream night out?
I’d have to get a plane to Vegas for a night that would turn into a week

Dream party theme?
It’s have to be an underwear parties and get all the girls round in their skimpies
